Which house fits your programme?
If you leave fjord hotel berlin on Bissingzeile, you are at the Berlinale Palast on Potsdamer Platz in a few minutes. Screenings and crowds by day, then back to a hyggelig house that deliberately does not sit on the square itself. From here you benefit from a central location: city cinemas towards Mitte and Kreuzberg, and galleries and the Kulturforum without a long journey. At our the YARD Berlin you stay a little set back on Alexandrinenstraße, and you reach the Jewish Museum on foot. For many that is the strongest art anchor in Kreuzberg: architecture, exhibition and a walk in one. At CALMA Berlin Mitte you are a few steps from your room onto Linienstraße and already in the middle of Mitte. You reach Museum Island by bike in about six minutes, and you can hire bikes with us. On Oranienburger Straße you also find Fotografiska in the former Kunsthaus Tacheles: a museum for photography and visual culture with changing exhibitions, often open late into the evening. Our LINDEMANN'S sits on Potsdamer Straße in Schöneberg, in the middle of one of the densest gallery clusters in the city. Along the street and in the courtyards you find contemporary art from established houses to smaller spaces, and northwards you are quickly at the Kulturforum. David Bowie's former flat on Hauptstraße is only a few minutes away as well. That makes a strong base for Art Week and gallery routes, and in the evening you stay in the neighbourhood with bars, food and a lived-in feel. Our Anna 1908 is on Büsingstraße in Steglitz, in a Gründerzeit period building with a quieter pace. And this is where the southwest has its own art hotspot: in Dahlem the Brücke-Museum and Kunsthaus Dahlem face each other. At the Brücke-Museum you see the famous collection of German Expressionism by the Brücke group, with Kirchner, Schmidt-Rottluff and the others, in a low building by the Grunewald. Directly opposite, Kunsthaus Dahlem shows modern and contemporary positions in the former studio building. From our Anna you reach the pair by bus or in about 15 minutes by bike, and you can hire bikes with us. Afterwards you are back in the green southwest with Schloßstraße and the Botanical Garden nearby.
Berlinale at Potsdamer Platz and across the city
The heart of the Berlinale remains Potsdamer Platz with the Berlinale Palast. The programme also runs in the big cinemas across the city, from Mitte via Kreuzberg to Charlottenburg. That is why a home base with good public transport in several directions pays off, not only a walk to the Palast.
