When Leipzig feels a little more mysterious than usual at Pentecost, when Victorian dresses, heavy boots, elaborate hats, lace, leather, and a lot of black come together at the main station, then it’s time for Wave-Gotik-Treffen again. From May 22 to 25, 2026, Leipzig will once again become the meeting point for the international Gothic, Wave, Industrial, Dark Electro, Neofolk, Medieval, and Steampunk scenes. As usual, the 33rd Wave-Gotik-Treffen takes place at various locations across the city—featuring concerts, parties, exhibitions, readings, markets, a cultural program, and that very special WGT feeling that transforms Leipzig every year over Pentecost.
More than just a festival: WGT is Leipzig in a state of exception
Wave-Gotik-Treffen is not a traditional festival where you walk through an entrance gate once and stay on the same grounds for four days. That is exactly what makes it so appealing. The WGT is spread across Leipzig: from the agra in the south of the city to clubs, churches, museums, theaters, and cultural venues, all the way to special program points in public spaces.
The result is a weekend that feels more like its own little parallel city: roaming through Leipzig by day, encountering people in the most elaborate outfits in Clara-Zetkin-Park, visiting an exhibition in the afternoon, experiencing a concert in the evening, and later disappearing into the night somewhere between Dark Wave, EBM, Post-Punk, or Gothic Rock. The WGT thrives not just on the line-up, but on this mix of music, urban space, the scene, ritual, and reunions.
Dates, tickets, and first program highlights for 2026
Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026 takes place from May 22 to 25, 2026. Tickets are already available. The 4-day ticket for the 33rd WGT currently costs 190 euros. Anyone wishing to stay at the tent or caravan site will also need an “Obsorge” (camping) ticket. Separate tickets or vignettes apply for caravans, vehicles with sleeping facilities, and parking.
Things are already moving on the musical front: numerous artists and bands have already confirmed their appearance for 2026. Among those performing are Einstürzende Neubauten, Kim Wilde, Frontline Assembly, Clan of Xymox, DAF, Das Ich, Lacrimosa, London After Midnight, Moonspell, Molchat Doma, She Past Away, Solar Fake, and Suicide Commando. Experience shows that the line-up is continuously updated—so it’s definitely worth checking the program again later.
What to expect at Wave-Gotik-Treffen
If you’re coming to Leipzig for WGT for the first time, you shouldn’t just look at the big names in the program. Of course, the concerts are a central part of the weekend. But the festival works best when you let yourself drift. Many guests plan their must-sees but deliberately leave room for surprises: a reading, a classical music program, a visit to a market, a stroll through the city center, or a spontaneous detour to a club.
A fixed point for many is the Victorian Picnic in Clara-Zetkin-Park. This is where the scene’s incredible attention to detail is most beautifully displayed: historical silhouettes, elegant hats, imaginative accessories, Steampunk elements, Dark Romantic, Baroque, Punk, Futurism—sometimes strict, sometimes playful, often impressively artistic.
In addition, markets, exhibitions, museum programs, cemetery tours, church concerts, and parties are all part of the long Pentecost weekend. The GRASSI Museum is also traditionally part of the cultural fringe program, offering special tours, workshops, and events during WGT. It is precisely this mix that makes the gathering so special: it is loud, quiet, elegant, wild, historical, musical, and sometimes wonderfully idiosyncratic.
Leipzig as a stage: Why WGT works so well here
Leipzig and Wave-Gotik-Treffen are a surprisingly good match. The city is large enough for a festival with international appeal and at the same time compact enough to find your way around quickly. The routes between the city center, Südvorstadt, Connewitz, Plagwitz, Clara-Zetkin-Park, and the agra are easily manageable by public transport, and many locations can be perfectly integrated into a long festival day.
The agra at Bornaische Straße 210 is one of the central venues and is located in the south of Leipzig. At the same time, numerous program points take place in the city center and at other cultural venues, meaning the festival is spread across all of Leipzig.
This is exactly why WGT doesn’t feel isolated. It drapes itself over the city without completely covering it. You encounter festival guests in cafes, on the tram, in the park, in front of museums, at the station, or late at night outside clubs. For Leipzig, this has long been part of the Pentecost weekend—and for many guests, it’s one of the reasons they keep coming back.
Who is Wave-Gotik-Treffen for?
WGT is, of course, a mandatory event for everyone at home in the dark scene. But even those who are curious, love music off the mainstream path, or want to experience Leipzig from a completely different side will find plenty to discover here. The spectrum ranges from electronic and hard to melancholic, experimental, classical, medieval, or theatrical.
The great thing is: the festival doesn’t just revolve around nightlife. If you don’t need four club nights in a row, you can build a much quieter WGT for yourself—with exhibitions, readings, walks, afternoon concerts, markets, and a relaxed look at the city. On the other hand, if you want the full program, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to turn night into day.
Where to stay for WGT: our little BIG basecamp in Leipzig
Experience shows that Leipzig is well-booked for Wave-Gotik-Treffen. If you want to sleep in the heart of things but not in the middle of the hustle and bustle, you should arrange a room early. Our two Leipzig hotels are very practical starting points for this—depending on how you plan your WGT weekend.
The Hotel am Bayrischen Platz is located close to the city center and is ideal if you want short distances to the center, the main station, many cultural venues, and towards Südvorstadt. Perfect for everyone who wants to explore Leipzig during the day, take a quick breather in between, and dive back into the program in the evening.
The Hotel Alt-Connewitz is a particularly good fit if you like the south of Leipzig and appreciate the proximity to Connewitz, Südvorstadt, and the agra. Especially during WGT, this corner is exciting because many routes towards the festival action are conveniently close, yet you still have a relaxed retreat.
In both cases, a good hotel bed at WGT is almost as valuable as a well-planned evening of concerts. After long nights, many impressions, and even more steps through Leipzig, you’ll appreciate a quiet room, a shower, breakfast, and a place to briefly find yourself again.
In addition, we are offering you a 5% accommodation deal with the booking code LBH_DARK (valid for stays between May 21 and 26, 2026).
Our tip for your WGT weekend
Don’t plan out every single hour. Pick out your most important concerts and program points, but deliberately leave gaps. Wave-Gotik-Treffen thrives on discovery: from a place you end up in by chance, to an act you didn’t know before, to conversations on the tram, a picnic in the park, or that one moment when Leipzig briefly looks as if someone had redesigned the city for a dark fairy tale.
From May 22 to 25, 2026, Wave-Gotik-Treffen will once again be one of the most atmospheric reasons to visit Leipzig. And perhaps the most beautiful proof that Pentecost in this city is anything but ordinary.
