Festtage 2027 at Staatsoper Berlin, 20 to 29 March: Wagner, Puccini and Beethoven. Tickets, programme and our boutique hotels in Mitte.
What the Staatsoper Festtage are
The Festtage are the Easter festival of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Daniel Barenboim founded them in 1996, and they have been fixed highlights in Berlin’s music calendar ever since. In the week before and across Easter, the house brings major opera and concert productions together under one roof, with international stars, the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Staatsopernchor. In the same calendar week, the Berlin Philharmonie also lists guest concerts and other evenings.
When and where it happens in 2027
From 20 to 29 March 2027, the Festtage 2027 take place at Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Unter den Linden 7, 10117 Berlin. Performance times vary by work, afternoon or evening, and the Staatsoper calendar lists cast and start times for each day.
Everything you need on the programme
Four focal points shape 2027, all at the house on Unter den Linden. You will find the latest schedule with casts and start times on the Staatsoper Festtage page.
Richard Wagner’s Tannhäuser returns as a landmark of Romantic opera. General Music Director Christian Thielemann is on the podium, with staging and choreography by Sasha Waltz. Key roles include Andreas Schager as Tannhäuser, Krassimira Stoyanova as Elisabeth, Andrè Schuen as Wolfram, Marina Prudenskaya as Venus and René Pape as Landgrave Hermann. Performances include 20, 23 and 26 March, each at 16:00. Plan for roughly four hours and twenty-five minutes including two intervals after acts one and two.
New on the schedule is Manon Lescaut, Puccini’s first major international success. Bertrand de Billy conducts the new production, Johannes Erath directs, having already staged Fin de partie at the Staatsoper. Asmik Grigorian takes the title role, Joshua Guerrero sings Des Grieux, Lauri Vasar Lescaut and Lucio Gallo Geronte. The premiere is on 21 March at 18:00, with further evenings on 24, 27 and 29 March.
On 25 March at 20:00, Joyce DiDonato returns to the Festtage. After a song recital two years ago, she appears this time with the trio Time for Three. On 28 March at 20:15, Thielemann conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor, op. 125, with the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Staatsopernchor. Soloists are Julia Kleiter, Patricia Nolz, Klaus Florian Vogt and René Pape. The evening marks the composer’s 200th death anniversary, which the international music world commemorates in late March 2027.
Tickets and Festtage packages
Festtage packages for 2027 are already on sale according to the Staatsoper and can save money compared with single tickets, depending on the package. Single-ticket presale starts on 30 October 2026 at 12:00 online and at the box office. Packages cover several events; seats may change from night to night, as noted in the Staatsoper booking information.
How to plan your opera days
Berlin’s showcase boulevard Unter den Linden is, of course, easy to reach by public transport. Plenty of stops work well for getting to the Staatsoper, including Unter den Linden, Friedrichstraße, Brandenburger Tor or Hausvogteiplatz (U2).
Once you are already in historic central Berlin, it pays to plan what comes after the curtain. After a long performance, a scenic walk to stretch your legs works well, and it pairs nicely with a restaurant visit. Keep an eye on how long each show runs so you can book a table in one of the many restaurants nearby. Tannhäuser alone lasts more than four hours and often finishes only after 20:30.
