Multiculturalism on a Plate: Food around Potsdamer Straße

Discover our favorite restaurants near Lindemann's and Fjord Hotel - tested by us and found to be very good.

Between Kebab, Dim Sum and Fine Cuisine – Welcome to the Gourmet District

Potsdamer Straße is a “little bit like Berlin itself: a wild mix of old and new, classy and rough, down-to-earth and pretty chic. And that’s exactly what you can taste – because restaurants from all over the world are bustling here. Whether you’re in the mood for Asian fusion, Arabic classics, the inevitable kebab, French lightness or just” a really good burger – you’ll get your fill here. And happy. Let’s go – everything about food around Potsdamer Straße.

Where the World Cooks – and Berlin Watches

The times when Potsdamer Straße was considered “too mixed” are over. Today, it is a meeting place for foodies, artists, Kreuzbergers gone astray, and tourists who dare to walk a block further. We too enjoy this incredible variety and share our favorites with you here.

1. Cay Tre Quan – Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine

Anyone looking for authentic Vietnamese soul food in Berlin should definitely pay a visit to Cây Tre Quán. Here, traditional Vietnamese cuisine is cooked with great attention to detail and fresh ingredients. If you like it fast but still high-quality, you’ll find your new favorite place here. The atmosphere is modern yet warm – light wooden furniture, lovely decorations, and a touch of Asian street food charm make Cây Tre Quán our feel-good place in the urban hustle and bustle of Berlin.

2. Mmaah Korean BBQ

Korean street food that packs a punch. Bulgogi, kimchi, fiery marinades – everything to go or to fall in love with on the spot. Quick, hot, delicious. We love the homemade sauces of Mmaah. The location in Nollendorfstraße – in the middle of lively Schöneberg, just a stone’s throw from Nollendorfplatz – makes Mmaah the ideal spot for a quick lunch, an after-work bite or simply for in between. The audience is as colorful as Berlin itself: students, locals, tourists and Korean food fans from all over Berlin get their money’s worth here.

3. Prometeo Authentic Pizza

Goebenstraße in Berlin-Schöneberg is just a stone’s throw from our Lindemann’s Hotel. How practical for us, because here you will find one of the best addresses for original Neapolitan pizza: Prometeo. Anyone who has been there knows: pizza is not just made here – it is lived. With a lot of dedication, long-fermented dough and high-quality ingredients from Italy, wonderfully airy pizzas with a delicate base and a light crust are created in the wood-fired oven. In 2023, Prometeo was awarded the best pizza in Berlin. The restaurant is therefore almost always full – reservations are a must. In addition, it is Southern Italian, bustling and sometimes chaotic, so not necessarily the best choice for a romantic candlelight dinner. More like a short vacation in Naples.

4.Bejte-Ethiopia

Berlin has more to offer than kebab, pizza, sushi or currywurst! Check out our insider tip Bejte Ethiopia in the quiet Zietenstraße. Very close to Nollendorfplatz, a real East African taste experience awaits you – traditional, aromatic and absolutely unique. Above all, the personal service is absolutely top class – always attentive and always accommodatingly nice. Like with us in the littel BIG hotels. At Bejte Ethiopia, the focus is on Ethiopian cuisine: strong spices, homemade stews (wots), lentils, vegetables, meat dishes – and of course injera, the soft sourdough flatbread that is both plate and cutlery. Here you eat with your hands – and that is as much a part of the experience as the typical spice mixtures Berbere and Mitmita, which provide plenty of depth. The restaurant is lovingly furnished with colorful cloths, traditional furniture and a warm atmosphere that immediately makes you forget that you are still in the middle of Berlin. Also nice: If you like, you can treat yourself to an Ethiopian coffee ceremony – with freshly roasted beans, incense and time to unwind.

5. Rocket & Basil

In the heart of Berlin-Tiergarten, on Lützowstraße, the Rocket & Basil serves creative cuisine with an oriental flair – and is no longer an insider tip, but a real crowd favorite. Whether brunch, lunch or coffee break – here, Berlin coolness meets Persian-inspired home cooking. From our Fjord Hotel you can walk there in less than 5 minutes. The perfect place for a snack. Founded by two Iranian-Australian sisters, Rocket & Basil brings a breath of fresh air to the capital’s gastronomy: hummus bowls, tahdig rice, roasted eggplant, poached eggs with yogurt, homemade granola or saffron-cardamom cake – all prepared with lots of love, color and spice. There’s also specialty coffee, Iced Matcha or seasonal lemonades.

6. Joseph-Roth-Diele

Time has stood still here! If you stroll along Potsdamer Straße and want to leave the fast-paced big city life behind for a moment, you should definitely stop at Joseph-Roth-Diele. This charming inn is a real Berlin institution – warm, down-to-earth and with a good dose of literary nostalgia. Named after the Austrian writer Joseph Roth, the restaurant feels almost like an inhabited living room – with wood paneling, old bookshelves, typewriters and yellowed photos. The cuisine? Homemade, hearty and seasonal, with a touch of Viennese coffee house tradition. Classics such as goulash, beetroot salad, lentil stew or apple strudel are on the menu as well as changing daily specials. An ideal place for a substantial lunch break or a quiet dinner with soul. From our Fjord Hotel you can walk there in less than 5 minutes.

7. La Cantine D´Augusta – French Way of Life in the Middle of Schöneberg

Named after the grandmother of the owner Sébastien. Her secret recipes await you in the heart of Schöneberg, not far from Potsdamer Straße, where the best of France is brought to the plates and glasses – charming, casual and without any frills. A bistro like in Paris, but with a Berlin soul: The Cantine d’Augusta serves authentic French cuisine, accompanied by hand-picked wines. This is all about real taste, best quality and a lot of passion. Everything is homemade or comes directly from France – from small producers for whom craftsmanship still means something. Sébastien is always looking for the best cheese. The adjacent cheese and wine shop offers a tempting selection. And the best thing about it – from our Lindemann´s Hotel you can walk there in 8 minutes. Bon Appétit.

Multiculturalism – and in the Best Sense

What makes the restaurant culture around Potsdamer Straße so special is not only the variety of cuisines, but also the audience. Nobody eats alone here. Pensioners, start-up people, art students from the Kulturforum, hipsters on a food tour and kids with large families – everyone sits at one table. And that’s exactly what Berlin is.

Conclusion: Come Hungry – and Stay for a Drink

Potsdamer Straße is no longer an insider tip in terms of cuisine, but luckily it is not yet overcrowded. If you like it casual, are open to new tastes and also look outside the box, you will find what you are looking for here. Whether lunch with a view of construction sites or an elegant dinner under the chandelier – the real Berlin tastes particularly good here.
