Discover Berlin by Night: the Long Night of Museums 2025

When Berlin museums open late into the night, it’s time again for one of the capital’s most popular cultural events: the Long Night of Museums Berlin 2025. On Saturday, August 30, the city will transform into a giant cultural stage – with 75 participating museums, more than 700 program items and one ticket for everything.

What is the Long Night of Museums?

The Long Night of Museums is a Berlin original: Since 1997, the city has been showing how diverse and vibrant its museum landscape is on a late summer evening. Large institutions, small niche locations, collections that otherwise remain hidden – everything is made accessible, for the curious, culture-hungry and night owls.

In just one night, you can stroll through the centuries, look into space, meet mummies, try out robots or simply dance across the museum courtyard with a drink in your hand. In 2024, around 45,000 people came – and 2025 will be no less spectacular.

When and where does the Long Night take place?

The LNDM 2025 will take place on August 30 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.citywide. From the Museum Island via Charlottenburg, Schöneberg, Prenzlauer Berg to Lichtenberg and Dahlem: 75 museums are taking part. The center of the event is traditionally in Berlin-Mitte around the Museum Island, the Humboldt Forum and the Kulturforum.

Many institutions also offer their highlights outside – whether with concerts, light installations or art events in the courtyard. And for those who want to do more: The free shuttle bus service connects many locations directly.

What can visitors expect in 2025?

This year, the Long Night of Museums is dedicated to what is probably the strongest feeling of all: love. In all its facets – romantic, friendly, familial or political – it is the subject of exhibitions, guided tours, talks and performances. The museums invite you to discover what connects people, what moves them and how love becomes tangible through art, history and society. A night full of feeling, curiosity and exchange – touching in the best sense.

In the Natural History Museum, night tours around the T. Rex await you, the German Museum of Technology shows light installations in the locomotive sheds, and the Futurium invites you to sound performances in the “Denkraum Zukunft”. The Museum for Communication offers interactive activities on the question “How does communication connect us today?”. Open-air music is played on the Museum Island, and you can experience Japanese sword art live in the Samurai Museum. In the SpencerHill World Berlin there are express tours around the cinematic work of Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill.

A practical feature of the LNDM website is the possibility to create your own route based on the selected events. Simply click on the white route symbol (wavy line with “+” sign) next to the event to add this station to your route. This way you won’t lose track and have everything in view.

Who is the Long Night for?

For everyone who feels like making discoveries. Whether you go alone, with friends or with the family – you will find a program for every age. Many institutions offer child-friendly activities, some tours are held in English or multilingual, and much is also accessible.

The Long Night is perfect for anyone who wants to experience museums outside of the classic Sunday morning. Here everything is a bit more relaxed, louder, more colorful – and above all: together.

Are you somehow unsure what suits you? The LNDM website has provided an exciting tool for this – the Museo-Mat. In 6 steps you will get a tailor-made recommendation and can plunge into the long night of museums.
